Mira Kapoor Calls for End to Diwali Fireworks Amid Worsening Air Pollution

In the aftermath of Diwali celebrations, Mira Kapoor, the wife of Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, has expressed her frustration over the persistent use of firecrackers and their impact on air quality. According to reports, air quality levels in Delhi and Mumbai plunged sharply following the festivities, with Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing the 400 mark, entering the "severe" category, and Mumbai's AQI dropping to "very poor" levels in multiple areas.

Mira took to her Instagram Stories to voice her strong disapproval of the continued normalization of firecracker use, emphasizing that it is not acceptable even if it is done "just for the kids to see once" or "just for them to have the experience." She also criticized the practice of using firecrackers for "pataka aesthetic" and urged people to stop this behavior.

Highlighting the irony of selective awareness, Mira pointed out that the "say no to crackers" message often appears on posters for Earth Day but is then forgotten when Diwali comes around. She emphasized that the AQI news is not just for the next Instagram story but rather about the air that children breathe, and that despite the privilege, education, and awareness, a lack of common sense prevails.

Mira made it clear that she will not send her children to watch while others engage in "cracker fun," urging people to stop this practice altogether. Her remarks underscore the growing concern over the environmental impact of Diwali celebrations and the need for a more responsible approach to the festivities.
