MCD to Establish 250 C&D Waste Sites Across Delhi Wards by 2026

In a bid to address the growing air pollution crisis in Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced plans to significantly increase the number of designated Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste collection sites across the city. As of 2025-11-15T00:31:39+00:00, the MCD has identified 19 new sites, with the goal of establishing a total of 250 C&D waste collection sites by 2026, ensuring that each of the city's MCD wards has at least one such facility.

The decision to expand the C&D waste management infrastructure comes in response to the worsening air quality in Delhi. According to an MCD official, incorrect dumping of C&D waste has been contributing to the city's air pollution problem, and the new sites are intended to provide better control and management of this waste stream.

The 19 new sites identified so far are distributed across various zones of the city, with 4 each in the Narela and South zones, 3 in the Shahdara South and Civil Lines zones, 2 each in the Central and West zones, and 1 in the Najafgarh zone. Additionally, the first phase of the project will see the establishment of 48 more sites, with 4 in each of the city's zones.

Currently, Delhi has 106 C&D waste collection sites, with the South zone having the most (21), followed by the Central zone (12), the Keshavpuram zone (11), and the West zone (9). The Shahdara North and Shahdara South zones, which have the highest number of wards, have the least number of sites (5 each).

The MCD's efforts to expand the C&D waste management infrastructure are a crucial step in addressing the city's air pollution crisis. By providing more designated collection sites, the authorities aim to ensure that construction and demolition waste is properly disposed of, reducing the impact on air quality and improving the overall environmental conditions in Delhi.
