Summary
- A 28-acre solar farm is planned for Mayfield by TotalEnergies subsidiary.
- Mayor Chelik clarifies the project is unrelated to data center industry.
- A public hearing is scheduled for June 10 to discuss the solar farm.

A new 28-acre solar farm is being proposed in Mayfield by Solar Star Mayfield 1 LLC, a subsidiary of the global energy company TotalEnergies. Mayor Al Chelik has emphasized that the project, located on the mountainside above Business Route 6, is not connected to the data center industry, alleviating local concerns. A public hearing is scheduled for June 10 at 6 p.m. in the Mayfield Borough Municipal Building to discuss the land development application.
The solar farm is planned for the 600 block of Business Route 6. While public hearings can lead to decisions, this upcoming session is intended to be informative. Mayfield's zoning permits solar farms in heavy commercial areas, meaning they do not require special approvals typically used for data centers. Solar Star Mayfield has reportedly met borough standards for noise, glare, and decommissioning.
The application filed by Solar Star Mayfield outlines the installation of ground-mounted solar panel arrays and associated equipment. The project will require minimal water or sewer services, with only occasional maintenance trips anticipated. Mayfield Borough Council will consider the planning commission's recommendation during the June 10 meeting. Council adopted regulations for large-scale solar facilities in August 2024, amending them in October 2024 to adjust setback requirements.
