Marwell Zoo, located near Winchester in Hampshire, is celebrating a rare sighting of a southern long-nosed potoroo joey in its enclosure. According to the zoo, the tiny marsupial, which is around 3 months old, has been spotted diving in and out of the pouch of its first-time mother, Truffle.
The nocturnal potoroos, which resemble small wallabies, are native to south-eastern Australia. Arun Selby, the zoo's primates and small mammals keeper, stated that this is the first time Marwell has had a baby potoroo, calling it "a great opportunity to learn" about the species.
