The Marina Blue Flag beach project in Chennai is progressing with Phase III near Vivekananda House nearing completion, while Phases IV and V are underway. These international-standard upgrades aim to enhance the beach experience and environmental quality.
Each developed phase, spanning approximately 20 acres, incorporates extensive amenities, including bamboo shade structures, reclining chairs, seating benches, watch towers, and dustbins. The Blue Flag certification also mandates regular bathing water quality monitoring, a targeted 85% reduction in marine litter, and the preservation of algal vegetation.
Further facilities cater to diverse needs, featuring a meditation centre, reading room, selfie points, children's play areas, and adapted equipment for persons with disabilities. The project also includes dedicated services like 12 wheelchairs, CCTV surveillance, first-aid rooms, storage, and separate, accessible toilets for all genders and persons with disabilities.
Automatic drinking water dispensers and breastfeeding rooms are also established. GCC Commissioner G.S. Sameeran recently inspected the developed areas, stressing continuous garbage clearance during peak seasons and regular maintenance of toilets and pathways for persons with disabilities.
