Mangaluru Waste Crisis: Minister Vows Action

Karnataka Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh has pledged to visit Mangaluru to assess the critical waste management situation at the Pachanady dumping yard. He will conduct a joint inspection with local elected officials to devise a permanent solution for the escalating problem.

The visit follows urgent calls from a Legislative Council member highlighting severe issues, including poor waste segregation, infrequent collection, and the alarming state of the Pachanady yard. Nearly nine lakh tonnes of legacy waste have created an unbearable stench, attracting pests and posing a significant health risk to the surrounding community, impacting daily life.

Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, the representative stressed that resolving this issue is crucial for public health and environmental safety, transcending political differences. He called for immediate government action and expressed readiness for a collaborative, non-partisan approach with other local MLAs and MLCs to ensure Mangaluru residents receive a clean and healthy living environment.
