- Over 500 youth and schoolchildren expected to participate.
The Manali administration, in collaboration with the Himalayan Extreme Sports Association, has launched the 'Manali green warrior initiative.' This program offers children and local youth free entry to the 5-km race of the Manali Marathon in exchange for collecting discarded plastic bottles. The initiative is set to take place from October 30 to November 1.
The fourth edition of the Manali Marathon merges sports, environmental conservation, and tourism promotion. Participants aged by group collect between 25 to 50 PET bottles for free entry into the Green Warrior category. Those successful will receive special green bibs and T-shirts, and will lead the 5-km race wave.
This campaign targets the removal of plastic waste from public areas before winter snowfall. It also aims to encourage young people towards fitness and deter drug abuse. Meetings involving local officials and organizations have been held to establish collection points and a transparent recycling system.
