Man-eating Tiger Relocated Due to Age and Weakness

A 12-year-old male tiger, implicated in the deaths of two individuals in the Gudalur region of the Nilgiris district, is currently en route to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai. Officials stated the tiger is expected to arrive at the rehabilitation center in the early hours of Saturday. A technical guidance committee's examination revealed the tiger's canine teeth are worn down, and it is in a weakened physical condition. Consequently, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has determined that reintroduction into its natural habitat is not feasible.
The extensive 28-day search operation concluded with the tiger's capture near Gudalur on Friday morning. This operation involved significant resources, including numerous personnel, camera traps, cages, kumki elephants, and drone surveillance. Earlier, on August 9 and August 21, two men, M Balakrishnan and K Ravikumar, were killed. The tiger was confirmed to be behind these fatalities. During the capture operation, two leopards were also trapped but were subsequently released back into the reserve forest area.
