Madurai Swelters Under Unplanned Power Cuts

Residents across Madurai are grappling with recurring, unscheduled power cuts that significantly disrupt daily life, especially during the ongoing heatwave. Outages, ranging from 30 minutes to nearly five hours, are plaguing neighborhoods including K Pudur, Koodal Nagar, Anna Nagar, and Surya Nagar. These frequent interruptions are compounded by persistent low-voltage issues, causing lights to flicker and fans to operate inefficiently.

The impact extends to educational institutions, where disruptions hamper learning by affecting internet connectivity and the use of computers and smart boards. School officials highlight the vulnerability of students to heat during these outages, emphasizing the need for power stability. A TANGEDCO official attributed the problems to the heavy load on the power system due to intense heat.

While regular maintenance is ongoing, the official anticipates that cooler conditions in the coming weeks will alleviate the strain on the power grid and reduce the frequency of disruptions. Residents hope for swift resolution to restore consistent power supply and mitigate the challenges posed by these outages.
