Ludhiana's Municipal Corporation (MC) recently achieved a significant recognition, receiving the 'Best Smart City Water Initiative Award' at the Global Sustainability and Innovation Awards 2024 in New Delhi. This award acknowledges the ongoing canal-based water supply project, a critical initiative funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The project is lauded for its incorporation of advanced technologies, including SCADA automation, VFD-operated valves, leak detection systems, and digital twin modeling. A new world-class water treatment plant is being established in village Bilga to treat surface water for city-wide household distribution. This project marks a major step forward in upgrading Ludhiana's water supply infrastructure.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing the civic body's dedication to sustainable development. The successful implementation and speed of the project have been particularly praised, reinforcing Ludhiana's commitment to providing clean, treated canal water to its residents.
