The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has approved a significant initiative to bolster solid waste management by establishing a waste-to-energy plant. This ambitious project carries an estimated cost of Rs200 crore and is designed to process municipal waste scientifically while generating electricity.
The municipal house has given its green light to the proposal. Following this approval, the LMC has initiated the process to select a consultant. This appointed agency will be tasked with creating a comprehensive detailed project report.
This report will encompass technical designs, technology selection, operational planning, and a thorough financial feasibility study. The consultant is expected to deliver this vital report to the LMC within two months of their appointment. This timeline is crucial for streamlining subsequent phases of the project.
Once the detailed project report and technical roadmap are finalized, construction is anticipated to commence. This project addresses the escalating challenge of waste disposal in Lucknow. The proposed plant will alleviate pressure on landfill sites and ensure waste is managed through scientific methods. Additional Municipal Commissioner Arvind Rao highlighted that the plant will also serve as an additional source of electricity for the city, using modern technology to convert waste into energy and reduce pollution.
