Tropical Storm Rachel Forces Marathon Course Change
11 Oct
Summary
- Marathon and half marathon will proceed as scheduled on Sunday.
- Course adjusted to bypass beachfront path due to high tides and surf.
- Eight homes in Long Beach red-tagged due to damage from high surf.

The 2XU Long Beach Marathon and its accompanying half marathon are set to continue as scheduled this Sunday, October 12, 2026. Race organizers announced a precautionary course adjustment to ensure participant safety amidst the impacts of Tropical Storm Rachel.
Due to elevated tides and challenging oceanfront conditions, the marathon route will bypass roughly 1.5 miles of the usual beachfront path. This change affects the section of the course just before mile 8. The full marathon is scheduled to start at 5:30 a.m., followed by the half marathon an hour later.
Long Beach, like other Southern California coastal areas, is preparing for Tropical Storm Rachel. The storm has weakened but prompted a Coastal Flood Warning through 3 p.m. for communities in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties due to powerful surf and high tides. Emergency officials have already red-tagged eight homes in Long Beach due to damage sustained from high surf, underscoring the coastal risks.
