The forest department has initiated a significant water conservation project in the Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. These embankments are projected to store 1.35 crore litres of rainwater, providing a crucial natural drinking water source for wildlife until winter. The initiative is designed to develop a complete ecosystem, boosting soil fertility and promoting native grass growth to support herbivore populations.
Furthermore, the developing reservoirs are expected to attract local and migratory birds, with a raised mound offering safe resting and nesting areas. This scientifically driven approach to reducing soil erosion and retaining moisture is seen as a key step in building climate resilience for arid zones. The project is anticipated to enhance biodiversity and promote eco-tourism in the Little Rann.
