Sewage Floods Lincolnshire Homes: Residents Humiliated
5 Mar
Summary
- Residents experience repeated raw sewage overflows due to heavy rain.
- Toilets stopped working, and water with raw sewage entered homes.
- Authorities acknowledge the issue but cite lack of simple solutions.

Residents in a Lincolnshire village are experiencing humiliation and frustration as drains repeatedly overflow with raw sewage, particularly after heavy rainfall. Incidents on Scothern Lane near Lincoln have seen dirty water, including raw sewage, spew near homes, leading to severe disruption such as non-functional toilets. Fiona Taylor, a resident for 25 years, described constant anxiety and the humiliating impact of the sewage entering her property.
Barry Warrener, another resident, highlighted the stress and health concerns associated with the inadequate drainage, noting that the problem has persisted for years and caused major flooding in 2007 and 2023. Local council chairman Mike Herbert stated that authorities have been repeatedly informed about inadequate storm tanks installed in 2014 but have seen no progress, with residents feeling 'fobbed off'.
Environmental Agency and Lincolnshire County Council officials acknowledged the issue, stating they are working with Anglian Water. However, they noted that infrastructure can be overwhelmed during intense rainfall, and there is no single, simple solution. All partners recognise the constraints involved in managing these persistent drainage and flooding challenges.
