20 Mar
Summary
- Leopardess captured days after her three cubs were found.
- Cubs were discovered by farmers in a sugarcane field.
- A cage strategy successfully reunited cubs with their mother.

A leopardess was safely captured by forest department personnel on Friday morning. This success came days after her three young cubs were discovered in a sugarcane field located near Bhutanahosuru village.
The cubs were first spotted by local farmers on March 18. Alerted by the farmers, forest officials quickly arrived and took the cubs into their custody. Efforts were immediately made to reunite the cubs with their mother and mitigate potential human-wildlife conflict.
To achieve this, the cubs were placed inside a cage at the exact spot they were found. This measure was intended to lure the leopardess back. The tactic was successful, as the mother leopardess was found inside the cage early Friday morning, unharmed. The operation was conducted with careful attention to avoid causing stress or injury to the animals. It was supervised by deputy conservator of forests Raghu and assistant conservator of forests Mahadeva, with the team led by range forest officer Shailaja.
