Leopard Snared, Found Dead in Odisha Tree

An adult male leopard was found deceased on Tuesday near Jarada village in the Ganjam district of Odisha, having become ensnared in a trap. Forest officials recovered the animal's carcass from a tree. It is suspected that the leopard climbed the tree after becoming caught in the snare.

According to divisional forest officer Sunny Khokkar, the snare was likely set by unknown individuals for hunting wild boar or other animals. The post-mortem examination of the leopard has been completed. This incident is the second recorded leopard death in the state within the last two months due to snares.

Earlier in May, another adult leopard died after being trapped in an illegal snare in Balasore wildlife division. Forest officials have launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible for these illegal hunting activities and have pledged strict action against wildlife offenders.
