Drought Cripples Lake Tapps: Second Boat Launch Shuts Down
1 Aug
Summary
- Second boat launch at Lake Tapps to close Aug. 14 due to falling water.
- Low water levels also caused another boat launch to close this past Monday.
- Statewide drought is cited as the cause for critically low reservoir levels.

The North Lake Tapps Park boat launch will close on August 14, marking the second closure at the lake due to critically low water levels. This shutdown follows the closure of the Allan Yorke Park boat launch earlier this week. Cascade Water Alliance confirmed the impending closure on Friday, citing continuous drops in reservoir levels.
The alliance explained that a statewide drought has severely impacted both the White River and the Lake Tapps reservoir. Water diversions to the reservoir are restricted when the White River falls below minimum instream flow levels. With forecasts predicting continued warm and dry weather, water levels in the reservoir are expected to drop further.
