15 Jun
Summary
- Los Angeles has been the top US city for mosquito activity since 2021.
- Chicago, New York City, and Detroit follow LA in mosquito rankings.
- Mosquitoes can transmit serious diseases like West Nile and Zika.

Los Angeles has retained its position as the city with the highest mosquito activity in the United States. This marks the third consecutive year the West Coast metropolis has led the rankings, according to a recent report. The study measured residential pest treatments from March 2025 to March 2026.
Following Los Angeles, Chicago ranked second, with New York City and Detroit rounding out the top four cities experiencing significant mosquito pressure. Atlanta, previously a long-standing leader in mosquito issues, dropped to fifth place this year.
Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance; they are vectors for dangerous diseases. These include West Nile virus, dengue fever, malaria, yellow fever, and the Zika virus. Health authorities recommend preventive measures such as using insect repellents containing DEET or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Additionally, wearing loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing can provide a physical barrier against bites.
