Karnataka Pollution Board Celebrates 50 Years, Calls for Eco-Friendly Action

On November 5, 2025, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) celebrated its 50th anniversary with an event in Hubballi. The chairman, P.M. Narendraswamy, used the occasion to stress the responsibility of passing on a clean environment to future generations.
Narendraswamy stated that over 3.5 lakh milk packets are getting into the soil every day in the Gadag, Dharwad, and Uttara Kannada districts, and steps must be taken to prevent this through awareness campaigns. He also noted that India's forest cover is less than 20% of the total land area, far below the 33% target.
The KSPCB chairman emphasized the need for public involvement in environmental conservation initiatives. To this end, the board is holding quizzes and debates in schools and colleges, and rewarding students who create reels on environmental protection. Additionally, the KSPCB will be setting up six new air quality monitoring centers in Dharwad district.
Presiding over the event, local MLA Mahesh Tenginakai called on people to join hands in making towns and cities free of garbage and plastic. Another MLA, Prasad Abbayya, elaborated on the government's measures to address environmental issues, praising the KSPCB's efforts to sensitize children towards conservation.
