Koregaon Park's Heat Spike: A Green Oasis Warms Up
2 Jun
Summary
- Koregaon Park records higher minimum temperatures than other Pune areas.
- Urban development and construction contribute to rising temperatures.
- Air conditioning is now needed for seven months annually in KP.

Koregaon Park (KP), a leafy Pune neighborhood, is experiencing a noticeable rise in temperatures, contrary to its historical reputation for cooler weather. Residents now require air conditioning for approximately seven months annually, a significant increase from previous years.
Experts attribute this warming trend to the urban heat island effect, where concrete structures absorb and retain heat, especially during nights. Unbridled development and increased pollution in expanding urban areas like KP are major contributors to higher temperatures.
Recent meteorological data from June 2, 2026, showed KP logging a minimum temperature of 27.1 degrees Celsius, exceeding Shivajinagar's 24.9 degrees Celsius. The daytime temperature also reached 38 degrees Celsius, among the city's highest.
Weather stations in highly urbanized areas like Lohegaon, Magarpatta, and KP consistently record higher temperatures than those in greener or less developed zones such as Shivajinagar, Pashan, and NDA.
