The city of Kolkata will be hosting the 6th Kisan Swaraj Sammelan from October 29 to 31, marking the first time the event takes place in the city. Organized by the Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA), this three-day conference is part of the Agro-Diversity Heritage Festival.
Approximately 600 researchers, farmers, and agriculture experts hailing from 23 different states are expected to convene at Science City. They will engage in discussions focused on organic and natural farming practices, with a particular emphasis on seed sovereignty, effective crop and weed management strategies, and addressing the growing conflicts between humans and animals in agricultural settings.
Key figures such as agriculturalists Padma Shri Sabarmatee and Padma Shri Subhash Sharma, alongside environmentalist Sunita Narain, will address the gathering. The conference also aims to explore critical contemporary issues including free trade agreements and the potential implications of gene-editing technology within food systems, while also seeking solutions for human-wildlife coexistence.
