19 Dec
Summary
- Kerr County is fast-tracking a $5 million flood warning system before Texas' next flood season.
- The system will include sirens, rain gauges, and a real-time flood condition website.
- State funding of up to $1 million per county is available to expedite these crucial systems.

Kerr County officials are urgently working to implement a long-planned flood warning system, estimated to cost up to $5 million, as the next Texas flood season approaches. This vital system will comprise sirens, rain gauges, a public website to monitor flood conditions, and flashing signs to alert residents during dangerous flooding events. The website is currently under development.
Texas is providing financial assistance through grants of up to $1 million per county to flood-prone areas declared disaster zones after recent floods. This initiative aims to speed up the deployment of flood warning infrastructure, which includes an initial $50 million allocated by state lawmakers. The goal is to have systems in place before the heavy rains typically seen in the spring.
The proposed system aims to provide at least 15 minutes of advance warning, allowing residents and visitors to move to safety. The Upper Guadalupe River Authority is collaborating with Kerr County on the project, and the initial phase, including the website, is expected to launch early next year.
