Thrissur Zoological Park in Keralam officially opened its gates to the public on February 28, marking a new chapter for conservation and eco-tourism. The park, designed by acclaimed architect Jon Coe, redefines the zoo concept with its "zoo without bars" approach.
Instead of cages, the expansive 338-acre facility features carefully recreated natural habitats, allowing animals to thrive in environments mirroring their native ecosystems. This immersive experience invites visitors to explore nine thematic zones that represent diverse Indian landscapes, from arid regions to shola grasslands.
The new park, located in Puthur, fulfills a long-standing vision to relocate the zoo from its previous cramped location. It aims to provide a space for both modern conservation efforts and engaging wildlife experiences for nature lovers and families.
Visitors can explore the park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Mondays closed for maintenance. Various ticket prices are available, including concessions for children and senior citizens. Electric buses are also deployed for convenient travel within the sanctuary.
