Kerala's Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh officially launched the state's World Environment Day celebrations at Kovalam beach. He announced plans for a comprehensive, year-long environmental conservation and awareness initiative, designed to actively engage students and the youth.
Minister Vishnunadh stressed that the sustained growth of Kerala's tourism sector is directly dependent on the health of its environment. He pointed to the alarming consequences of climate change, citing the displacement of residents in Kuttanad and the increasing vulnerability of coastal communities and fishermen to extreme weather and high tides along the Arabian Sea.
Inspired by global environmental activists, the Minister urged the state's youth to take proactive roles in conservation efforts. The Tourism department is collaborating with socially committed organizations and tourism clubs to implement the extensive awareness program. The event also featured a mock drill by tourism lifeguards and a walkathon advocating for environmental preservation.
