The Kerala government is set to install 60 km of solar fencing along forest fringes in Wayanad district to address escalating human-wildlife conflict. This initiative is part of the State's 100-day action program. Additionally, existing 25 km of solar fencing will undergo repairs.
Wayanad, recognized as the most severely impacted district by human-wildlife conflict in the State, will also have its forests assessed for carrying capacity by the Wildlife Institute of India. This study will consider the numerous human settlements near forest areas and evaluate tiger and elephant populations.
Further measures within the 100-day program include clearing vegetation along 100 km of Forest department roads and deploying four Rapid Response Teams in Wayanad. The Forest department will also organize statewide adalats starting August 1 to resolve pending complaints.
