Kent Gardens Open Early Due to Warm Spring
30 Mar
Summary
- Hole Park opened gardens on March 28, weeks earlier than usual.
- Warmer-than-usual March temperatures caused early blooming.
- The park is celebrating its earliest spring opening on record.

Hole Park, a country estate in Kent, has experienced its earliest spring opening in history due to an unseasonably warm start to the year. The gardens, typically opening on the first weekend of April, welcomed visitors from March 28. This early opening is attributed to March temperatures nearing record highs, which have caused numerous flowering plants to bloom weeks ahead of schedule.
Owner Edward Barham confirmed the early opening of the Bluebell Spectacular, noting the absence of significant frost or cold weather this spring. Records indicate that bluebells usually flower from early April, peaking in early May. However, they are already displaying a blue shimmer and have reached 'level two' on the estate's bluebell barometer. Other notable blooms include magnolias, camelias, fruit trees, tulips, primroses, and fritillaries, with wisterias, azaleas, and rhododendrons expected soon.
