Revised flood defence plans have been submitted for Kendal, aiming to enhance protection for local properties and businesses. The Environment Agency has lodged proposals for a substantial 688ft-long flood wall and a 370ft-long embankment within Westmorland Business Park.
These new defences are designed to better protect over 1,920 homes and 2,250 businesses from the severe impact of flooding. This initiative follows Kendal's experience of its worst-ever flooding recorded due to Storm Desmond in 2015.
The updated plans incorporate improvements beyond the flood wall, including enhanced surface water drainage, an upgraded access track, and landscaping designed to minimize visual impact. These revisions build upon planning consent that was originally granted in 2019, with residents' views now being actively sought.
