Kaziranga National Park has concluded its most successful tourism season on record, with visitor numbers soaring by over 15% to reach 4.68 lakh during the 2025-26 fiscal year. This figure represents a substantial increase from previous years, highlighting the park's growing appeal. International tourist footfall demonstrated exceptional growth, rising from 17,693 to 30,474 within a single year.
The park's success is attributed to a "conservation-first" model, which has not only protected its famed "big five" species, including the one-horned rhinoceros and Royal Bengal tiger, but also catalyzed economic development. Enhancements in infrastructure and global recognition, partly due to high-profile visits, have drawn more travelers.
New tourism initiatives aimed at enriching visitor experiences include boat safaris, cycling trails, and dedicated birding circuits. These developments, alongside ongoing conservation achievements like years with zero rhino poaching, are creating local employment opportunities and positioning Assam as a sought-after destination.
The upcoming Kaziranga Elevated Corridor is set to further balance development with wildlife protection by facilitating safer animal movement. The park closed its gates on May 29, 2026, for the monsoon season and is expected to reopen in November after the waters recede.
