30 Oct
Summary
- Cracker bursting hours restricted to 8 PM to 10 PM.
- Criminal cases filed against vendors selling banned crackers.
- Emphasis on green crackers with QR code authentication.

The Karnataka government is implementing stringent measures to reduce air and noise pollution during the upcoming Deepavali festival. Officials have been instructed to enforce a strict two-hour window for firecracker bursting, permissible only between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Criminal cases will be filed against any vendors found possessing or selling banned non-green firecrackers. Only green crackers, verified by an emblem and QR code, will be allowed. Bursting of crackers will be prohibited near sensitive areas like hospitals and educational institutions.
District authorities are tasked with forming inspection squads to check firecracker vendors' stock and seize non-compliant items. Public awareness campaigns will promote eco-friendly celebrations and proper disposal of cracker waste. The government aims to comply with Supreme Court and High Court directives on environmental protection.
