Kanoor Lake Restoration Begins: Water for 20 Villages

Restoration efforts are underway at Kanoor lake in Tirupur district, a significant freshwater reservoir managed by the water resources department (PWD). Located between Avinashi and Annur, this approximately 150-acre lake is crucial for the region, linking to the Avinashi-Athikadavu groundwater recharge scheme.
The initiative, supported by Kousika Neerkarangal and the Kanoor Lake Protection Association, focuses on enhancing the lake's biodiversity through soil mounds and tree planting. Financial assistance has been secured from a private small finance bank for this vital project.
Assistant Executive Engineer M. Sivakumar stated that the completed restoration will enable the lake to store around 80 crore litres of freshwater. The project also includes desilting of the lake and canals, strengthening embankments, and installing informational boards.
