In Dhanbad, approximately 170 families residing in fire and subsidence-affected zones within Rajput Basti and Muslim Basti have agreed to a relocation plan. This decision was made after they expressed satisfaction with an updated rehabilitation package for the Jharia Rehabilitation Plan. The deputy commissioner confirmed that the plan was thoroughly explained to residents.
Under the revised package, each displaced family will be allocated two quarters in Belgaria Township. They will receive immediate financial assistance totaling 1.5 lakh, comprising 50,000 for shifting, 50,000 for rent, and 50,000 for livelihood support. An additional 1 lakh will be disbursed six months after rehabilitation, bringing the total to 2.5 lakh per family.
Residents also voiced concerns about the availability of religious and social amenities, specifically requesting provisions for temples, mosques, and a cemetery. Officials assured that a mosque is already present and that demands for additional facilities would be positively considered by the JRDA.
The district administration and BCCL are focusing on creating employment and self-reliance opportunities for relocated families, aiming to build confidence and encourage further relocations from hazardous areas.
