28 Jul
Summary
- Floral offerings from five Shiva temples will be converted into organic compost.
- Dedicated e-vehicles named 'Shivarpanam Rath' will collect temple waste.
- The compost will be distributed among citizens for use in plants.

During the holy month of Sawan, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has initiated 'Shivarpanam,' a unique month-long program. This pilot project aims to convert floral offerings from five prominent Shiva temples into valuable organic compost, merging religious devotion with environmental stewardship.
Specially designed e-vehicles, known as 'Shivarpanam Rath,' will collect belpatra, flowers, and other biodegradable materials from Tadkeshwar Mahadev, Jharkhand Mahadev, Jangleshwar Mahadev, Chamkareshwar Mahadev, and Rozgareshwar Mahadev. These temples were chosen for their high visitor numbers and substantial offering quantities.
The collected green waste will be transported to municipal gardens for shredding and composting in dedicated pits. JMC anticipates generating 10-20 tonnes of compost from this initiative. Officials stated that the resulting manure can be utilized for most plants, excluding Tulsi, thereby reducing organic waste sent to landfills and fostering a circular economy.
