Jaipur Garbage Bills Spark Resident Outrage
13 Oct
Summary
- Residents face irregular waste pickup despite a RFID-based collection system.
- Private companies issue bills covering multiple months, causing payment confusion.
- Municipal officials state monthly billing is mandatory; action promised.
Jaipur's door-to-door garbage collection system is facing significant criticism from residents due to inconsistent service and confusing billing practices. In several localities, households report that garbage trucks do not visit regularly, despite the implementation of an RFID-based system intended to monitor collection efficiency in 10 of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation's 13 zones.
Compounding the problem, private companies responsible for waste collection and fee recovery are issuing bills that aggregate charges over multiple months, rather than providing monthly statements. Residents are struggling to understand how their fees are calculated, as bills often cover periods of three to eight months without a month-wise breakdown.
While the municipal guidelines stipulate monthly billing by official slips, residents claim this is not being followed. JMC officials acknowledge that this practice is a violation of tender conditions and have stated that action can be taken against the concerned companies. Residents experiencing such issues are encouraged to lodge complaints with the municipal corporation.
The RFID-based fee collection is not yet operational in the Jhotwara, Sanganer, and Jagatpura zones. In the other 10 zones, Urban Enviro Waste Management Limited and Ravi Travellers are managing collection and fee recovery.
