A duck is undergoing crucial recovery at Wildlife Rescue - Moyles Court after suffering a severe injury that left its lower beak hanging at a right angle. Fortunately, the bird retained blood supply to the damaged beak, allowing surgeons to perform a successful pinning procedure. Without this, the injury could have prevented the duck from feeding itself. The bird was discovered by a member of the public in Fordingbridge and brought to the center near Ringwood in Hampshire. The duck will remain at the center for at least six weeks. During its rehabilitation, it will be reintroduced to water and learn to preen its feathers, a vital process for waterproofing its body. Head of nursing Carla England highlighted that this ability is often lost when birds are injured or unwell, emphasizing the long recovery period needed after such major surgical events.
