Indore Division Faces Severe Rainfall Deficit
30 Aug
Summary
- Indore district is 39% below its normal rainfall.
- Burhanpur and Khargone have recorded the highest rainfall in the division.
- Farmers concerned as water sources dwindle due to prolonged dry spell.
As the monsoon season concludes, the Indore division is grappling with a substantial rainfall shortfall. Indore district has received only 465.4 mm of rain, a deficit of approximately 39% against its usual 867.9 mm. The region has endured a dry spell with no significant rainfall in the last 24 hours, and forecasts indicate this pattern will persist, with only isolated light showers possible next week.
Across the division, rainfall totals vary. Burhanpur has seen the most rain with 701.5 mm, nearly meeting its seasonal average, followed by Khargone and Khandwa, which have also recorded over 70% of their normal rainfall. However, western districts such as Alirajpur and Dhar are significantly drier, recording less than 50% of their expected rainfall. This prolonged dry spell has heightened concerns among farmers regarding water availability from local reservoirs and other sources.
