India Powers Ahead: 50GW Renewables Added in 2025!

India has reached a remarkable energy milestone in 2025, adding 50 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity. This substantial expansion has elevated the country's total non-fossil fuel capacity to around 262GW, significantly outpacing its climate targets.

As of December 2025, non-fossil fuel sources now constitute half of India's installed power capacity, fulfilling the Paris Agreement's 2030 objective five years ahead of schedule. The year saw unprecedented growth, with approximately 45GW of renewable capacity added between January and November, predominantly from solar installations.

While this rapid scaling is commendable, ongoing hurdles such as land acquisition and grid integration delays continue to challenge project rollouts. Industry experts project substantial future investments will be required to meet ambitious capacity targets, underscoring the dynamic nature of India's energy transition.
