The MSC certification is anticipated to increase the revenue of the fisheries sector by 30% and help Indian fishermen and traders access new markets beyond the United States, especially in the event of further trade restrictions due to higher tariffs. Additionally, the certification will encourage fishing communities to adopt ecologically sustainable practices, ensuring steady incomes for the future.
According to experts, global affluent markets in Europe and Japan are increasingly seeking out sustainably sourced fish. The MSC certification, which is based on the FAO's Code of Conduct for Responsible Fishing, will help Indian seafood exporters overcome trade barriers in these lucrative global markets, boosting the country's seafood export potential.
