India Faces Dual Threat: Widespread Rains vs. UP Heatwave

On Sunday, June 28, India is set to experience widespread rainfall, with forecasts indicating heavy to extremely heavy downpours in eastern, northeastern, western, and southern parts of the country. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, are expected to sweep through numerous states.
Despite the advancing southwest monsoon, some regions, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, are still under a heatwave alert. Isolated areas in east Uttar Pradesh may even face severe heatwave conditions, while west Uttar Pradesh remains under a heatwave watch. Odisha is also predicted to have hot and humid weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that the monsoon will continue to advance into new regions over the next few days. Conditions are favorable for its progression into more of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Heavy rainfall is specifically forecasted for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Konkan and Goa, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Residents in Delhi-NCR can expect thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 50 kmph, offering temporary respite from the warm and humid conditions. Similar weather is anticipated in parts of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
