Heavy Rains Sweep Across India; Orange Alert Issued

Odisha and Chhattisgarh are forecast to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday, August 23rd, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for these regions. Isolated heavy rainfall is also anticipated in numerous other states.
A yellow alert has been issued for states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, indicating expectations of heavy rain at isolated locations. Southern India, including coastal Karnataka and Telangana, is also predicted to see isolated heavy showers.
Furthermore, the IMD predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu. Similar conditions, though with slightly lower wind speeds, are expected in parts of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Odisha, Telangana, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
The current wet spell is expected to persist across many parts of India in the upcoming days. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Goa, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka, with scattered showers and accompanying thunderstorms in other regions.
