India Champions Solar for Island Nations

India is advocating for enhanced global collaboration to bolster energy security in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), highlighting solar power's potential for profound transformation and social change. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav stressed that SIDS face unique challenges due to imported fossil fuel dependency and climate vulnerabilities. He emphasized the necessity of collective action to establish affordable, clean, and resilient energy systems.

During a session on the sidelines of UNFCCC COP30, Minister Yadav detailed India's rapid strides in clean energy, announcing that the nation has surpassed 500 gigawatts of installed electricity capacity, with over half derived from clean sources. This achievement positions India as a leading renewable energy producer, meeting its non-fossil energy capacity targets five years ahead of schedule.
