Stranded Whale Fights for Life Off German Coast

A humpback whale has been stranded off Germany's Baltic coast, specifically near Poel Island in the Bay of Wismar, since last week. This marks the animal's fourth stranding since early March, though it had previously managed to swim free on three occasions. The 12.35-meter whale is currently in poor condition, suffering from the significantly less saline waters compared to its natural marine environment.

German scientists have initiated efforts to assess the situation, including testing the water quality to determine if the dying animal poses a risk to public health or the environment. They are also investigating the possibility of relocating the whale to deeper waters using a catamaran.
