Cauvery Falls Dry: Hogenakkal Water Supply Secured

The reduction in water release from Karnataka's reservoirs, attributed to insufficient southwest monsoon rainfall in Karnataka and Kerala, has led to a sharp decrease in the Cauvery's flow at Hogenakkal. Consequently, the picturesque waterfalls have dried up, exposing riverbed rocks, with inflow currently at a mere 100 cubic feet per second.
Despite the low inflow, the Tamil Nadu Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme's intake station, established in 2012, continues to draw water. Officials confirmed that pumping remains viable as long as the flow does not drop below 20 cubic feet per second. These sandbag barriers are a proactive step to sustain the supply of up to 145 MLD for Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
