Summary
- Forest department signed MoUs with two private hospitality institutions.
- Institutions will adopt land for plantation and maintenance for five years.
- Initiative promotes ecological restoration and public environmental participation.

The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department recently initiated the Rajiv Gandhi Green Adoption Scheme, signing Memorandums of Understanding with two private hospitality institutions, Red Apple and Paradise Chateau, in Kullu. These agreements signify a commitment to ecological restoration and increased green cover.
Under this scheme, both institutions will adopt one hectare of land each for five years. They will be responsible for the plantation and ongoing maintenance of plants, leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for these activities. The initiative is designed to encourage public participation in environmental conservation.
This program aligns with the state's budget announcement to plant trees on barren land, thereby increasing forest cover and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities. The scheme ensures scientific planning and continuous monitoring, with the Forest Department overseeing all interventions to conserve biodiversity and strengthen climate resilience.
