The Uttar Pradesh government has joined forces with HCL Foundation, the CSR arm of HCL Tech, to significantly upgrade waste management infrastructure in Hardoi, Prayagraj, and Agra. This strategic partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Urban Development Department and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), is designed to bolster urban sanitation efforts.
The collaboration will concentrate on developing effective strategies, implementing pilot programs, advocating for policy changes, and integrating technology to streamline waste management processes across the three identified cities. This initiative aims to foster cleaner and more sustainable urban environments.
In Hardoi, the project has already seen the inauguration of ten electric drain-cleaning carts and ten electric garbage loaders for the Nagar Palika Parishad. Additionally, three reverse vending machines have been introduced to encourage public participation in recycling efforts. Plans are also in motion to designate three markets and three wards as model sanitation zones, complemented by city beautification through wall art.
Anuj Kumar Jha, secretary of the Urban Development Department, highlighted that this partnership will fortify waste management practices by fostering institutional collaboration. He expressed confidence that the initiative will yield innovative models for achieving cleaner and more sustainable cities in the state.
