19 May
Summary
- Haryana uses zone-wise drone surveys to map drains discharging into the Yamuna.
- State has operationalized 90 sewage treatment plants with 1,518 MLD capacity.
- New STPs and CETPs are planned, with projects extending to December 2028.

Haryana is intensifying its pollution control strategy with a new initiative to map drains flowing into the Yamuna River using zone-wise drone surveys. This effort aims to identify pollution hotspots and strengthen source-level monitoring.
The state has made significant progress, operationalizing 90 sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 1,518 million litres per day. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades are underway, with several plants under construction or undergoing improvements to boost efficiency.
Further strengthening its wastewater management, Haryana has 17 common effluent treatment plants operational and has proposed eight new CETPs. Future expansion includes nine new STPs with a planned capacity of 510 MLD, with project timelines extending through December 2028.
This comprehensive plan, which includes in-situ treatment facilities on major drains, is expected to significantly enhance the ecological health of the Yamuna River through coordinated efforts with Delhi.
