Hartlepool Borough Council is considering new measures to tackle anti-social behaviour and environmental issues. Proposed public space protection orders (PSPOs) aim to enhance the town's safety and cleanliness, with residents encouraged to participate in an online consultation closing on January 5th. These orders grant authorities the power to issue fines of up to £100 for offenses.
The first proposed PSPO focuses on the town centre and surrounding areas, targeting actions such as public urination, defecation, spitting, verbal abuse, street drinking, and reckless use of skateboards or e-bikes. It would also address the use of intoxicating substances in public spaces.
The second measure targets all back lanes, introducing stricter enforcement against littering, fly-tipping, improper bin storage, and vehicle obstructions. Following the consultation, a final decision on implementing these PSPOs is expected in the new year, following community feedback.
