Summary
- Untreated wastewater accumulates on a low-lying vacant plot in Sector 61.
- Cattle and birds were observed drinking from stagnant, unprocessed sewage.
- Health and environmental risks are a growing concern for residents and officials.

Untreated wastewater from residential and commercial establishments has accumulated in a low-lying vacant plot along Archview Drive in Sector 61, Gurugram, creating significant health and environmental concerns. The stagnant, unprocessed water, which has overflowed from a sewerage line into the unfenced plot, has been seen being consumed by cattle and birds. This ongoing issue, persisting for months, is attributed to a lack of a proper wastewater disposal system.
Local authorities, including the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), have initiated desilting of sewer lines across Sectors 58 to 67, completing approximately 14 km of the 16 km project. Efforts are underway to address illegal sewer connections, with 8 to 10 identified and disconnected. The network is planned for linkage to the Behrampur sewage treatment plant in the coming months.
The caretaker of the private land has alleged prolonged inaction by civic authorities, who have assured restoration after repeated complaints. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has stated that inspection teams will visit the site to take strict action, including issuing notices, against those responsible for the open discharge of sewerage water.
