Gurugram Sector 67: Civic Decay, Dump Site Woes

Sector 67, Gurugram, is currently grappling with persistent civic problems that severely affect residents' quality of life. These issues include widespread illegal garbage dumping, recurring sewage overflows, and inadequate road infrastructure, notably a lack of footpaths.

Illegal dumping of waste is a major concern, with an open dumping site expanding and emitting foul odors. This site, located near a school and commercial areas, has been present for over two years, with sanitation workers' efforts proving insufficient. Additionally, an eight-acre plot designated for a government hospital has become a dumping ground for construction debris, highlighting a critical failure in public utility project management.

Poor road conditions, including potholes and uneven surfaces on service lanes, pose significant safety risks and contribute to dust pollution. The absence of dedicated footpaths forces pedestrians to share roads with traffic, a situation exacerbated by recent Supreme Court rulings emphasizing the right to walk on demarcated footpaths.

Compounding these issues, sewage discharge from nearby areas leads to wastewater accumulation and severe waterlogging, especially during rainfall. While authorities have deployed pumping machines and initiated inspection teams, the development of a proper stormwater drainage network is still underway. No penalties have been imposed for illegal dumping thus far.
