The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) special monitor, Vidya Bhushan Kumar, recently reviewed Gurugram's sanitation, solid waste management, and environmental protection measures. He urged officials to ensure implementations have a visible, on-ground impact.
Authorities presented progress on cleanliness drives, waste collection, and pollution control. Approximately 129,903 properties were identified as major waste generators, with nearly 400 vehicles deployed for door-to-door collection through July 8, 2026.
Significant progress includes processing 3.62 million metric tonnes of legacy waste at Bandhwari by January 31, 2026, with the remainder targeted for February 2027. The Basai C&D waste plant's capacity has been expanded, and treated water is utilized for irrigation.
Kumar emphasized time-bound, transparent, and result-oriented implementation, stressing citizen participation and enhanced public awareness campaigns. He also visited key sites like the Bandhwari landfill and Basai plants to assess conditions firsthand.
