Garbage Fires Choke Gurugram as Pollution Woes Persist
26 Oct
Summary
- Frequent garbage burning at multiple locations in Gurugram
- Residents allege no action from civic bodies despite GRAP-II curbs
- Air quality remains "poor" for four days straight

As of October 26th, 2025, Gurugram continues to grapple with poor air quality, with residents reporting frequent garbage burning at multiple locations across the city. This comes even as Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage II restrictions remain in force across Delhi-NCR due to deteriorating air quality.
Under GRAP-II, the use of coal and firewood is restricted, construction activities are suspended, and road sweeping and water sprinkling have been made mandatory. However, residents of Sohna's Ward 12 say garbage has been burning daily for nearly a week at the dumping area near Nirankari Baba Gurbachan Singh Memorial College, causing constant smoke and making it difficult to breathe. Residents in Sector 81 have also reported similar incidents, with a vacant plot being used as an illegal dumping ground and set ablaze.
The city's air quality has been "poor" for four days straight, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Residents allege the real problem is waste burning and rising dust pollution, rather than just firecrackers. They claim the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has not taken any action despite repeated complaints, and the temporary dumping yard has now become a permanent one.
